Piney Woods

Greetings Brothers,

Founded in 1909 the Piney Woods School is a co-educational boarding school located in Piney Woods, Mississippi. It is the largest and second oldest continually operating African-American boarding school for grades 9-12 in America.

Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. has a long standing relationship with the Piney Woods School, having established Kappa Kamp there as part of our National Guide Right Program initiative. Kappa Kamp teaches youth to envision their educational opportunities as stepping stones and positive influences in their decision making for personal growth and achievement in life. For 16 years, Kappa Alpha Psi’s Kappa Kamp has partnered with Piney Woods to help carry out those efforts.

As we have looked strategically at our Guide Right Program design our research has determined that our Kamp must be focused on college readiness and college preparation. As a result, Kappa Alpha Psi has entered into a strategic partnership with Paul Quinn College in Dallas, Texas. It is our belief that a Kamp that is placed in a college setting will have a profound effect on our youth’s self-image, broadening their view of themselves as college bound material.

That said; Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. still has a commitment of support for the Piney Woods School. We continue to hold Piney Woods near to our heart and we appeal to our membership to continue to give your financial support to the Piney Woods School. Yes we need to support the new Kappa Kamp at Paul Quinn College. However, we are not turning our backs to the Piney Woods School.

We ask that you please make a donation to the Piney Woods School today. Thank You.

Yours in the Bond,

William “Randy” Bates, Jr., Esq.
